Dulux Announce Colour Of The Year For 2020
Have you heard the news? Dulux have announced their 2020 Colour Of The Year and we have to say, we are loving it. Announcements like this are a really big deal in the world of interior design and there’s no doubt that many are already planning on how they can incorporate the new on trend colour scheme into their homes.
Just in case you haven’t yet heard the news, the new colour of the year is perfectly named Tranquil Dawn and it’s green, with slight hints of blue and grey. But it’s not an in your face, bold green. Its both subtle and calming, making it the perfect transition colour for a tranquil space. This is very different to Dulux’s previous choices, with the 2019 colour being a rich and bold caramel brown tone named Spiced Honey.

Each year a panel of experts assist the Dulux team to help decide on the colour of the year and this year saw assistance from the likes of Heleen van Ghent and Michelle Ogundehin. Both of which are powerful forces within the interior design community. To come to the decision, popular trends, styles and technological developments are all taken into consideration.
Tranquil Dawn is said to be inspired by the morning sky and helps bring the human touch into a home in a world that is heavily influenced by technology and modern living. The main theme is for people to reconnect with one on another and have a space that feels calming and free.

Dulux Colour Palettes
Each year alongside the chosen colour of the year there are also accompanying colour palettes designed. Alongside Tranquil Dawn, Dulux have highlighted a whole range of complimentary colours to help you create a cohesive finished look. The colour palettes for 2020 are called:
- A Home For Care
- A Home For Play
- A Home For Meaning
- A Home For Creativity
All of which represent a different lifestyle and help you create a space suited to your style and the functionality needed. Let’s look a little further into the chosen colour palettes and how you can make them work in your home.
A Home For Care is one of the lighter colour palettes and incorporates complimentary soft and neutral shades. Pastel tones are highly incorporated in this colour scheme with darker shades coming from beige and caramel browns. This colour palette is great if you want to introduce Tranquil Dawn into your home in a subtle way with an emphasis on a calm and zen atmosphere.
A Home For Play is a really fun and bold colour palette and completely transforms the way you can use Tranquil Dawn in your home. It is suggested to pair this tone with bright colours of red, blues and yellow for a space that is both intriguing and playful. This is great if you are perhaps decorating a playroom or office and want to introduce a range of brighter tones to ignite happiness within the home.

A Home For Meaning is bold and atmospheric, with different shades of grey featuring throughout the palette. Perfect if you are wanting to make a space feel dramatic but still warming. The softer tones counterbalance the darker tones of black and dark grey really well. This colour palette is certainly on trend and will work well in larger spaces that can take darker colour tones.
A Home For Creativity is perhaps the most intriguing out of all of the colour palettes introduced for 2020. It uses a wide range of rich, bold tones all that seem to cohesively work with the lighter Tranquil Dawn. The intense colour scheme allow you to make a space both vibrant and warming. Perfect if you are the type of decorator that wants to introduce colour and pattern into your home.

Overall, we are really excited about this announcement and we can’t wait to see how Tranquil Dawn is used throughout Interiors now and throughout 2020. What stands out to us most is the idea of bringing in a human touch and highlighting elements of nature like the morning sky. Any space that brings the outside in is great.
