Description
What are window boards?
Window boards, also known as interior window sills, are essential components found beneath windows. They provide support for glazing and frames, covering the gap between the wall and the window while also helping to channel condensation away from the window. In addition to their practical role, window boards often function as shelving units for displaying picture frames, ornaments and plants.
Our MDF window boards are made from moisture resistant MDF, offering a smooth, durable surface that is much easier to work with than traditional wood. With no natural imperfections, they provide a flawless finish every time. Available in various thicknesses, you can customise the dimensions and add a tongue for easy installation. The standard tongue sizes are 9mm x 9mm on 18mm boards, 12mm x 12mm on 25mm boards, and 15mm x 15mm on 30mm boards.
Why do window boards have a rebate?
Most of our window boards are supplied without a rebate, but a tongue rebate can be added. A tongue rebate creates a groove that helps the board sit flush with the frame, preventing any gaps and providing a neat finish. It also allows the board to be easily installed over any debris or glue build-up from the previous window sill board, making replacement simpler. Can you customise the size of MDF window boards?
Yes, you can easily customise the size of your internal MDF window boards, including the depth, width and length. The dimensions depend on the length of the window as well as the size of the horns on the board. Ultimately, the choice of window sill board size is a matter of personal preference to suit your home.
