Bathroom Skirting Board FAQs

Are these skirting boards completely waterproof?

No, these MDF skirting boards are moisture resistant (meaning they won’t degrade in a humid environment such as a bathroom or kitchen), but they are not waterproof. UPVC skirting boards or ceramic tiles are more suitable for areas like wet rooms, where the skirting will be exposed to water for prolonged periods.

Can I install bathroom skirting boards myself?

Absolutely! Our bathroom skirting boards are designed for easy DIY installation. They can be cut to size with standard tools and fitted using adhesives or fixings suitable for bathroom environments. The installation process for these skirting boards is the same as for skirting elsewhere in the home.

What's the difference between regular skirting and bathroom skirting boards?

To be suitable for a bathroom, skirting boards must be manufactured from a moisture resistant material. Some skirting is made from a standard grade of MDF that will degrade in a humid environment because it absorbs moisture from the air and expands. All bathroom skirting boards produced by Skirting 4 U are manufactured from Moisture Resistant (MR) MDF.

Do all sides of MDF skirting boards need priming in a bathroom?

If you were installing skirting made from standard grade MDF, priming all exposed edges would help “balance” the board and prevent it from warping in a humid environment. Because our bathroom skirting boards we manufacture are made from MR MDF, the outer layer of the material is very dense and effectively seals the core against moisture. As a result, it does not need to be primed on all surfaces; only on those that will be painted.
